Unit 14 P2 describe the focus of the chosen radio station
1) BBC Radio 4 is a British owned radio station which is owned and operated by the BBC a company whose purpose is to inform, educate and entertain. It had originally started in 1939 with the predecessor BBC Home Service lasting until 1967 then had a frequency change in 1967 and officially became BBC radio 4 in 1984. The service is funded by UK license fee meaning they are unable to broadcast to any other country with the information as they do not provide the funding for the radio station to continue on.
2) The target audience for the BBC radio 4 with an age range of 35 and over and not specifically target a specific race but to rather to reflect a range of UK and international aspects of other peoples and their cultures in order to be able to uphold to its remit and "reflect a range of UK and International arts, music and culture." However this audience is based within the UK in order to meet the needs of the license fee. In the terms of listening with the BBC radio 4 has had a 6.8 million listeners during a week any given time with little to no alteration within the figures for 32 years. The lifestyle of the audience varies as the audience is a wide range to only specifically age 35 and above meaning the people that listen to the radio can have varying life styles. The spending power similar to the lifestyle can vary due to the fact the target audience is only made specific with the age category meaning the spending power of these audience members varies.

The BBC radio 4 is divided into five different sections during the day: Early, Morning , Afternoon, Evening and late with each of the sections possessing a Varity of different topics that can range from documentaries to informative pieces of information to entertainment can easily become appealing to a wide target audience. This would be appeal to the target audience as it would allow them to tune in at any time of the day and listen to what Radio 4 has on at the day this beneficial as it would allow a larger target audience to view it due to the fact some people may not be available at some times in a day. Hence proving an effective means to reach the target audience by having the necessary means to allow people to listen to the radio at any time in the day that they can.
